The Best Haircut for your Face Shape

The Best Haircut for your Face Shape

Anne Alajar |

More often than not, we see haircuts that look great on our friends, but when we try it out ourselves, it doesn't have the same WOW factor. This is most likely due to the fact that their hairstyle wasn't catered to your face shape. Thankfully, we've come up with some styles that would be best according to your face shape. Finding the perfect haircut and style can be hard - but finding the perfect cut and style that suits your face shape is a lot easier after you read this!
Now, there are several face shapes that can be distinguished: Round, Long, Oval, Square, Heart, Diamond, and Triangular.

Round Face
If your face shape is considered round, you would want to opt for a hair style that adds as much structure and volume to your face as possible. You would need to add length as well as some height to your hair. That being said, go for cut and styles like the pompadour, the side part, or the french crop. These haircuts go longer on the top and shorter on the sides, elongating and adding more dimension to your face to give it a more pronounced look.

Long Face
Long or rectangle shaped faces look best with styles that widen the cheekbones, which helps balances out the face. Longer faces are longer than they are wide, so you would want to avoid hairstyles and beard styles that make your face look longer and skinnier. Shoulder length hair or a slicked back hairstyle would be flattering, but if you favour shorter hairstyles, avoid styles that add volume to your hair so that it doesn't elongate your face any further.

Oval Face
Oval faces are fortunate enough to be able to rock any hair style! Because oval faces have both round and square features, you wouldn't need to emphasize certain features to balance anything out. Feel free to experiment with different styles until you find the one that you feel best in.

Square Face
If your face is more square shaped, we recommend neat haircuts that are longer on the top and shorter on the sides. You want a cut that emphasizes your strong jawline so go for the undercut, which emphasizes hair volume and shows off your facial structure.

Heart Face
Heart shape faces can be distinguished with wider foreheads and pointed chins, so you're looking for a haircut that helps balances the top part of your face with the bottom. We recommend longer, softer styles like a mid-length side-swept part, layered quiff, or textured fringe. You also have the forehead for bangs, so feel free to grow out your hair for the dreamy look.

Diamond Face
A diamond face shape can be characterized by wide cheekbones with a narrow brow and jaw, so we recommend styles that will create a fuller and wider forehead and chin. We recommend going for mid length, textured and messy hair to create angles and to compliment your facial features.

Triangular Face
Those with triangle face shapes have a wide jawline with a narrow forehead and cheekbones. That being said, you would want to balance out these features by adding a lot of volume on the top. Go for the thick quiff or textured pompadour cut, keeping your hair thick and voluminous as possible.

It is important understand that the purpose of going by face shape is to help emphasize or understate certain features to balance out your face. Just because you have a certain face shape, doesn't mean you're confined to styles that exaggerate certain features. Feel free to experiment with different hair styles until you find the one you're happiest with! Remember, you can always modify classic styles to help tailor them to you specifically!
Hope this guide helped narrow down those choices!
