How To Style Men’s Short Hair

It’s the weekend and you wanna freshen up for a hot date, you know what to do - time to visit the barber! But the next morning you wake up with bed-head and panic. Styling short hairstyles can be tricky to maneuver but with the right skills and knowledge you can emulate that barber shop quality style! There are a variety of different short styles for men, and even more products. This week, we're going to talk about some different short hair styles and what techniques and products you can use to achieve them!

Crew Cut & Style

A timeless military inspired haircut that usually has shorter length on the back and sides - perfect for the man who wants to achieve the clean cut but wants low maintenance styling. To maintain this haircut you will want to visit your barber a little more often, 1 - 2 weeks for upkeep on the shorter length. To style this cut you can use a clay or pomade for a good hold, depending on the thickness of your hair. Those with thicker hair may not even need product to style this look!

Ivy League & Style

The Ivy League cut - also referred to as the Princeton or Harvard Clip - is an iconic type of crew cut that features length on top of the head, long enough for a side part. The sides of the head and crown area is kept shorter. With this cut you can rock the messy or slick look. Since the Ivy League cut is a bit longer then the Crew Cut, you won’t have to visit the barber as often to maintain this look. You can use clay or putty for texture and hold on this haircut. You can mess it up with your fingers for that casual look or run everything back with a comb to look more sleek.

High and Tight & Style

A moderate-maintenance haircut but doesn't need as much styling (depends on how much you want to keep on top length). This cut also features high clipped back and sides for a military inspired look with less of a blend up top. What’s nice about this cut is you can keep some inches on top but try to avoid keeping it too long, otherwise the haircut will have a disconnected look.
For styling this cut, if you have more length on top you can use putty or clay. If you have a shorter length on top, you can even sport this look product-free. Due to the sides and back being quite short this cut does take some maintenance to up-keep.

Products
We recommend Reuzel's Extreme Hold Matte Pomade for a style that stays put! Or, if you want to add some shine to catch some eyes, there is also Reuzel’s High Shine Pomade!
Alternatively, if you’re looking for a clay, try Barberstation’s Matte Finish Hair Clay for a more textured look.
Barberstation also offers a High Shine Fiber Pomade for a malleable hold, and is also water-soluble for a no-hassle wash out.
Remember, no matter what hair type you have, apply the product from the root. A common mistake most people make is only applying product to the ends of the hair!

Now you don’t have to worry about not looking your freshest ever again! Men’s short styles are easy to maintain, stylish, and low maintenance. Depending on how extreme your cut or fade is, you may have to visit the barber more frequently, but, you won't have to worry about product or extra time needed to style!
