It's difficult to choose the right schedule to wash your hair. If you over-wash your hair, it will become dry and brittle. If you don't wash it often enough, your hair will become oily. So what should I do? The amount of time you wash your hair is not the main aspect that matters. What is also important is to understand what type of hair you have, and which shampoo is best to use. Then you’ll find out what’s the best schedule for washing your hair! And, worry no more, King’s Crown is here to assist you! Here are a few pointers to get you started!
DOES HAIR TYPE MATTERS?
It certainly does! Every hair type requires special care.
Thin hair:
Thin hair has two typical problems: it becomes oily easily and doesn't hold as much volume or loses volume rapidly. The reason for this is that your natural hair oils have less surface area to coat than thicker hair which explains why it feels oily quickly. It's a natural hair conditioner for your hair. In other words Like Loren, our Master Barber from Queen Street says “ you have overly active sebaceous glands! Which is not a bad thing, you just have very silky shiny hair!”
Recommendation: Wash with Reuzel shampoo and conditioner daily if you struggle with build up oil. Otherwise, we recommend washing your hair every other day, or brush your hair with a boar brush to transfer oils down to your roots if you can’t wash it.
Thick or curly hair:
Thick or curly hair can be a blessing and a curse. The advantage to thick hair is that you will have amazing volume. Your hair can also go an extra few days with its natural oils and dirt without worrying if it will be weighed down. The downside is frizz and feeling dry and brittle. Thick hair doesn’t maintain the oil as well as thin hair.
Recommendation: Wash 1 to 2 days a week with Loma Moisturizing Shampoo and use conditioner daily. Conditioner will provide nourishment and control to the individual strands. It will help to maintain moisture and allow it to be shinier and create volume.
WHAT TYPE OF SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER SHOULD I USE?
It all depends on your hair and what you're trying to do. Before I explain which shampoo or conditioner to choose, let me talk to you about sulfate.
Rumours have circulated throughout the years that sulfate is bad for your hair. True, it can make your hair dry and brittle by stripping away your natural oils, and it can also cause volume loss and frizz. Also, due to the necessity for our natural oils, any shampoo with sulfate is not ideal for anyone with curly and thick hair. However, this is not true for those who have oily hair. Sulfate can help if you have too much oil. Due to sulfate being an amazing degreaser removal, sulfate shampoos will help absorb and get rid of oils in your scalp.
If you have curly or thick hair, we recommend using Loma Moisturizing Shampoo. It is sulphate-free, and also amazing for coloured hair.
If you have oily hair, Reuzel can help you out! Effectively cleanses the hair and scalp without over drying. Balanced for excellent degreasing and cleansing.
If you have too much oil, and still think you should get away from sulfate, we recommend using our Go 24.7 Shampoo. This shampoo has vitamin B5 which allows your hair to thicken and be stronger!
To finish it off, Conditioner is based on your preference. Go 24.7 Conditioner is one of our favourites, it provides vitamin B5 which helps strengthen your hair and it helps to replenish and moisturize your strands, leaving it super soft.
